Example Research

Each year, when 30,000 emerging adults (EAs) exit the foster system, 4,000 become instantly homeless. The EAs exit with face disquieting and sometimes dangerous futures. Many will encounter homelessness, HIV risks, hunger, illness, and forced transactional sex.

Services exist in each state, with an independent living coordinator who offers helpful programs and ideas. Still, outcomes vary. Other national and local organizations help with training and adoption advocacy but place little emphasis on EA transition services.
